Make_recovery exclude filesystems

Hello,
I want to make a new recovery tape, but want to exclude some filesystems (because of the limitations of the DAT-drive). Can anyone give me an example how to exclude a filesystem?
Thanks in advance,
Geert.

Re: Make_recovery exclude filesystems

Hi Geert:

Take a look at the man pages for 'make_tape_recovery'. If you use '-x exclude=file|dir' in your command string you can exclude files or directories (and files beneath) from the archive.

Re: Make_recovery exclude filesystems

Hello James,
Ofcourse I looked into the man pages before :-)
But the logic of excluding dirs or filesystems wasn't clear to me. You speak about the pages for 'make_tape_recovery'. Is this a error or a separate command (isn't available in our system)? The parameter -x isn't available in 'make_recovery'.
Thank you,
Geert.

Re: Make_recovery exclude filesystems

Hi Geert,

#make_recovery -p -d /dev/rmt/#mn
Generates the include files.

#vi /var/opt/ignite/arch.include
Delete entries from list as desired.

#make_recovery -r -d /dev/rmt/#mn
Generates the creation of Ignite-UX Tape.

Re: Make_recovery exclude filesystems

Hi Geert:

I didn't mean to dismiss your question flippantly. 'make_tape_recovery' is the *replacement* for 'make_recovery' in Ignite 3.2 and later. You should start by downloading a current version of Ignite and installing it. The man pages for 'make_tape_recovery' are included, of course.

Volume group vg00 can be archived with 'make_tape_recovery' with the following simple command:

# make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn

Don't confuse the '-i' option of the old 'make_recovery' with the '-i' option of its replacement, 'make_tape_recovery'. The '-I' option of make_tape_recovery is the *same* as the '-i' option of make_recovery. '-I' means cause the Ignite process to be interactive when booting from tape.

Re: Make_recovery exclude filesystems

Hello,

May be this is a foolish answer.

U can unmount the filesystem which u don't require, Then go for make_recovery.

Re: Make_recovery exclude filesystems

Hi again,

It's an idea which works fine.
But if you have process running and need that moint-points , this will bring problems.

Best you edit the /var/opt/ignite/arch.include and to delete whatever you don't need and continue with the second make_recovery command in the my last response.

Re: Make_recovery exclude filesystems

Hi,

if you run make_recovery -p you'll get the file /var/opt/ignite/recovery/arch.include. This file contains all the files which will be into the archive. If you want to exclude any file/directory, remove it from this file and will not be copied. Then run make_recovery -r.

James was talking about a "new command" (make_tape_recover) available, at least, from B.3.2.45. You should migrate to a newer Ignite UX.

Re: Make_recovery exclude filesystems

With the latest version of Ignite, you can do
an archive across the network to an Ignite server. The command is
make_net_archive -i -s Ignite_server_name
you get a nice Graphical User Interface where
you can add extra file systems or remove some.

To recover, you would interrupt the boot
and enter
boot lan.ip_address_of_Ignite_server install
Ignite has improved a lot.
