Make recovery tape for recovery test

Hello, I am in the process of planning a rcovery test at sungard. I want to make a recovery tape on my system and then be able to load it at the recovery test site. Obviously the machines are different as far as i/o addresses, but I think they will both be K boxes. I have read some documents from the IT resource center and one that bothers me says that make recovery differs from make net recovery in the way that it handles some of the config files. What I need is someone that has had real world experience doing this type of thing. Anyone that would be willing to discuss my options, please contact me.. Thanks alot.. kev

Re: Make recovery tape for recovery test

I have successfully recovered the only two K-class servers I have tried at SunGard in Philly. The first time, I recovered a K580 to a K580 using a make_recovery tape and my omniback tapes for all non vg00 data. The second time I recovered a K460 onto a K580 again using a make_recovery tape for vg00 and OmniBack tapes for the balance. If you are interested in my detailed recovery process please E-mail me.

Re: Make recovery tape for recovery test

I strongly suggest that you contact Sungard for their documentation and recomendations for system recovery at their sites. They will provide you with a complete checklist of everything you will need/avoid to quickly recover your system(s) there. These people know what they are doing! Some time back we performed a complete disaster recovery test with end to end connectivity (and end user interaction) and everything went off without a hitch.

Re: Make recovery tape for recovery test

The backup/restore for the root volume group in HPUX seems to be straight forward and I have found much documentation on it. My question is: how do I backup/restore the non root volume groups. My ultimate goal is two fold: 1)clone a system and 2)provide a disaster recovery plan. This is a very simple process in AIX, but I haven't been able to find any detailed instructions for doing it yet in HPUX.
