i need to backup all my 8gbyte disk scsi on my hp b180l workstation.
I have a dds2 tape with data tape 120m 4mm
(8gb compressed or 4 gbyte)
The make_recovery process tell me:
pax: Ready for volume 2
pax: Type "go" when ready to proceed ......
I suppose in that way i have 2 or more dat tape is this correct ??
Could I have problem when i'm using that tapes???
thank you all
best regard
Matteo

Re: make_recovery trouble.......
There should be no problems in doing this. I have used 2 tapes for an Ignite backup and not had a problem with the restore.

Re: make_recovery trouble.......
lssf /dev/rmt/0mn
(using the appropriate drive number) and see if the output includes "best density"; if it does, you've got too much data and it wants a 2nd tape. If not, you're not using compression. I don't know if that would mean you'd have to remake the device file (man mksf for the details) or if there is a way to activate compression for the existing device.

Re: make_recovery trouble.......
I use DDS3 tapes 12/24GB. they are very handy nowadays with larger disks and filesystems...
So you dont have to compress your ignite backup. Also, it allows for faster restore if it is not compressed, but you knew that.
FYI, You might need 3 tapes b/c of header needed on each tape... In the future try to get DDS3 tapes if they are available...

Re: make_recovery trouble.......
2 tapes sound right depending on how much of the disk is actually used. DDS-3 is an option but then is it worth buting a second tape drive and DDS-3 tapes rather than using 2 dds_2 tapes
