make_tape_recovery errors out

When I run make_tape_recovery I get the following error. Can anyone tell me how to resolve this? Or at least what direction to look? Thanks.

Re: make_tape_recovery errors out

Hi Michael:

I'd clean your tape drive, use a new tape, and verify that you can push files from disk to a tape with 'tar'. The errors suggest a bad tape or tape drive.

Re: make_tape_recovery errors out

I have done that. Tar moves files out to the tape fine. I will try the cleaning again just to be sure.

Try with /dev/rmt/0m device file.

Re: make_tape_recovery errors out

Hi,

What type of tape are you using? DDS3? DDS2? Maybe there isn't enough space on the tape for the archive? Or is make_tape_recovery smart enough to handle that?

Sorry, forget my message

Re: make_tape_recovery errors out

Its a DDS-2 tape.

David,
I tried the 0m device. No go.

Re: make_tape_recovery errors out

Yes, you need no rewind device.

Re: make_tape_recovery errors out

It was indeed a bad tape. 2 in a row, bad right out of the box. Tried a different brand this morning and it worked like a champ.

Thanks for everyone's help. Can you change the points awarded after the fact?
