make_tape_recovery Isuue

Hi all,
i have to backup a volume group other than vg00.
I have read that with make_tape_recovery i can use "-i" option to do that.
Any suggestion or better solution?

Re: make_tape_recovery Isuue

Ignite (of which make_tape_recovery is just one part) is for preparing system recovery archive. It is very useful for making the recovery archive of root disk. For non-root volume groups, you can use any backup methods you like/use.

So using make tape recovery for non-vg00 volume groups is not very good ides. Saying that, if you still want to use make_tape_recovery for non-vg00 volumes groups you can do as follows.

make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vgxx -v -a

Hi,
option -i is good for interactive use.
You can also use the -x option for specify other vg Es:

-x inc_entire=vg00 -x inc_entire=vgXX

Also you can use the -f content_file option for include/exclude vg|file|directoy (see man)

Re: make_tape_recovery Isuue

Demat Ricardo,

Another solution would be to use fbackup by including for exemple in the graph file the mount points of your Volume Group.

Bill Hassell previously post some good reasons to use it :
<======
- fbackup will backup any filesize on HP-UX, 5 Gb, 500 Gb, even 1000 Gb files.

- fbackup can handle tape libraries and change tapes during backup.

- fbackup creates a tape-by-tape cumulative index before writing any data on a tape. This means the entire backup table of contents can be read in a few seconds.

- fbackup's index is tape volume aware. So if you need a file from a 3 tape backup, simply put the last tape (#3) into the drive and run frecover to restore the file. frecover will tell you which tape is the one with the file.

- fbackup creates high speed search marks that allow a single file to be restored in just a few minutes no matter how big the tape may be (local tape drives).

- frecover can resync on a tape that has a bad spot.

- fbackup will not allow a previous tape in a multi-tape backup to be accidently overwritten.
