make_tape_recovery on B.11.23
Following on from a previous post. http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=287126
We now have an RX2600 with 11i V2. Running Ignite-UX from DVD media for October 2003. Getting the follwoing error message after sorting out the bootlif, INSTALL and INSTALLFS files.
lifcp: Cannot create SYSCMDSIA ; no space on the LIF volume
make_medialif: error - lifcp SYSCMDSIA failed, probable insufficient size for /var/tmp/uxinstlf.recovery
ERROR: System Error, /opt/ignite/bin/make_medialif failed creating boot LIF file.
ERROR: Failed to generate LIF on tape
/var has just over 4Gb free at 13%. Any suggestions would be most gratefull.
Graeme.

Re: make_tape_recovery on B.11.23
Robert-Jan,
Do you know if there is any uniform increase against a logic volume size for the lifinit value?
Currently the lifinit value within make_medialif is -v206000000 which is greater than the workaround described in your link.
Graeme.

Re: make_tape_recovery on B.11.23
There is a known issue with Ignite B.5.0.35 if executing a make_tape_recovery fails on 11.23 if PA-RISC boot fileset not loaded .
When make_tape_recovery is run:
ERROR: System Error, /opt/ignite/bin/make_medialif failed creating boot LIF file.
ERROR: Failed to generate LIF on tape.
fatal /opt/ignite/boot/INSTALL does not exist, is not a regular file or
is not readable
make_medialif: error - /opt/ignite/boot/INSTALL does not exist, is not a
regular file or is not readable
This is resolved in Ignite 5.1 which is not available for download yet.
The workaround would be to install ALL Ignite-UX-11-* filesets onto the 11.23
system before attempting to create a recovery tape.
The underlying issue is that make_tape_recovery should not require the
PA-RISC boot files to exist on the system or place them onto an Itanium
make_tape_recovery tape since they are not required.
At present, I'm just waiting on HP informing me when the Ignite B.5.1 will be released so I can remove the PA-RISC Ignite versions.
When HP let me know, I'll post it on here.
Pity I can't award myself 10 points!!!
