Re: make_tape_recovery
If you want to let Ignite create non-vg00 volume groups, then perform your 'make_tape_recovery' specifying just one file from the non-vg00 volume group (VG) to trigger re-creation of the VG. See this tip (#4-9):
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/IUX/faq.html#d0e1701
Regards!

I am talking about the ignite being interactive at boot.

Re: make_tape_recovery
This will work. Ignite is slower to backup and restore than other utilities, which is a good reason not to use it for large amounts of data.
However, if you include both VG's in the make_tape command, it will backup and restore all of the info.
I have done small systems this way in the past. My criteria always was that the entire ignite backup had to fit on one DDS-2 tape.
As others have said, make sure you do the interactive restore.

Re: make_tape_recovery
make_tape_recovery -Av -a/dev/rmt/0mn -t MyServerYYYYMMDD â I
the -I option is quiet important cause if you forget the DAT in the server / if you reboot the server you dont make a recovery automatic.
You can use too a server in order to make cross ignite save.
