manage root passwd

Hi all,

I have 100 hpux, 100 linux servers in env.
Need to manage root passwd.
Reset root passwd to a random string, every week and send it back to me centrally.

How it can be done ? any programs already exist ?
Also, need a tool to centrally deploy config files like resolv, nssswitch, sudoers. which tools can help to it, Ignite ? HP-SIM ?

thanks in advance.
regards,

Re: manage root passwd

Shalom,

Partial solution.

Pick a HP-UX server or better yet Linux system to be the master of the universe.

All powerful system.

ssh-keygen -t dsa

Distribute this systems id_dsa.pub file as authorized_keys on all systems.

The this master of the universe system can push resolv.conf nsswitch sudodoers to all systems.

Ignite certain can manage system replication and configuration file distribution to the HP-UX systems. It will provide no help whatsoever with Linux.

This master configuration server will be able to distribute configuration files, execute backups and do all kinds of wonderful scripted tricks with scp commands without needing a password.

To take control of a one of the subordinate systems, you need only log into the master of the universe system and then ssh hostname to the subordinate system.

I wrote a paper on this.

I forget which is the right one, though both are pretty good.
