March 2003 QPK dependencies

I am researching installing the March 2003 QPK on a D class, 11.0 system that currently has patches that were last done in 1998 and 1999 (with the exception of an occassional patch for JAVA and few others)....

My questions: 1. The patches with warnings. If I have to leave one of them out, how do I find out if another patch is dependent on it.

2. Do I need to do any updates from 1998 until now, or is this all cumulative...

thanks...Jay

Re: March 2003 QPK dependencies

Hi,

The best way to install the QPK is to let the system determine what is required. You don't need to install any previous patch releases. Don't force any patch on unless you know what you are doing.

You can preview the installation using the following command:

# swinstall -p -x autoreboot=true -x patch_match_target=true -s

Check the swagent.log as mentioned on the screen and if you are satisfied, then install as follows:

# swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x patch_match_target=true -s

Hope it helps.

Re: March 2003 QPK dependencies

Hi Jay:

SupportPlus patch bundles are cumulative and there is no need to do anything other than apply the QPK bundle.

You are wise to review the patch bundle for last minute warnings. For those patches with warnings simply skip their installation as you see fit, go to the ITRC Patch Database, and download any suggested replacement patch.

If a patch you exclude is a dependency for another patch, 'swinstall' will simply reject (skip) the *other* patch that is dependent on it. You will be able to see this situation during analysis phase of the installation and this is not a problem.
