Its been known for a while that different browsers react differently to this problem and that IE seems to work when all others fail.

Well, at work I am restricted to said (sad?) IE, but "System Unavailable" is all too common there as well!

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Interestingly enough when posting with IE, if you get the system unavailable message, your message is posted. With firefox or mozilla, the message does not post and you must try again.

Thats kind of what I mean.

There has been some weirdness today but I redid my apartment network to 100 BaseT the other day and was not sure if it was HP or Protter Israel Limited(joke).

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Well, then, just to add to the confusion: I run Netscape on HP-UX. When the "system unavailable" times occur, my posts are accepted as well. The damn "unavailable" screen pops up, I hit the reload button and it gives me a popup to the effect that the page has forms data on it or whatever and when I OK the pop-up, it returns with the normal submission acceptance page.

On occasion I have tried to use IE during "system unavailable" periods and have gotten things like "unable to display requested page" or some such thing. I think when it's in one of its unavailable moods, it doesn't make any difference which browser you're using.

I think Gary's spider/bot/crawler explanation makes as much sense as anything. It's like a DOS attack!!

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

When I'm using Firefox 1.5.1 on WinXP and getting the "System Unavailable" message, my replies post anyway, even without a reload:
I can open a new window, and navigate to the thread and see my post, while the other window still says "system unavailable"

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Hmmm

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7

My posts are NEVER there when I get system unavailable and I often until today had to double clutch when posting.

I think things have improved a lot.

Now I'm putting on and IDF combat helmet and waiting for things to come crashing down. Happens every time I say something nice.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Same here at the same time with the browser listed in my last post.

Question for the engineers? Is it more useful for incident reports to be made in GMT as Mark just did?

Inquiring minds who wish to be helpful want to know.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Is possible to give a link in left hand side of ITRC page as,

» How to earn points
» Support forums FAQs
» Forums Issues

keep on change the Forums Issues link for that month?! It is hard to look back again.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

The time now: 14.53 BST (13.53 GMT).

For the last hour I have been getting System Unavailable messages. This occurred mostly while I was trying to give points to people who had helped me. Eventually, the screen went white and I had to log out and back in. Strangely enough, when I got back in, the points had been allocated.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Apparently since march 20 the Login is executed via an https site. And at work those are blocked..... Have been for years.
The only way anyone could ever have logged in via our intranet was via a monitored http site.
This effective _BLOCKING_ of my ITRC use from work is a severe limitation to the usefullness of ITRC in my work.

- Why was it changed?
- Why was this done without any notification?
- Most importantly: When will it be reversed?

At the moment I am not eally a happy camper... :-(

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Shalom,

Reliability has improved greatly (DUCK!).

There seems to be a convergance between the system unavailable messages, the need for me to double post with Firefox.

There has been improvement and I can postg more frequently with only one click.

Nice job!

Two days left I moderate this thread. There is a special sale. 3 points for any moderator post.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Shalom,

Response appreciated:

Dear HP,

In light of the fact that 11.00 is still supported and the major sendmail security flaw out there, do you think HP is going to release sendmail 8.13.3 or higher for 11.00?

It would be helpful in securing older systems and meeting regulatory requiements.

You know I'm strange when I use the word dear outside my home.
