Max MSA30 MI supported per Host Controller

Hi all,

does anybody know how many MSA30-MI are supported on a 2-node MC ServiceGuard Cluster (HPUX) - per pair of SCSI controllers ...

I've seen the documentation and cannot find information to see if it is possible/supported to extend the SCSI connections of an MSA30-MI to a second MSA30-MI - without adding an additional pair of controllers ...

Or does the MSA30-MI REQUIRE a host controller per host port?

Thanks for your help.
(I've allready consulted with the local HP storage specialist, but I'm still waiting for an answer)

Regards,

Mauricio

Re: Max MSA30 MI supported per Host Controller

An HP-internal website details support policy for various disks and Serviceguard. This site contains several notes about the MSA30-MI. One says this about the JBOD:
"There are 2 separate SCSI buses (Bus A and Bus B) in the MSA30 MI, each with 2 Auto-terminating SCSI ports, and each bus has 7 disk mechanizms. It is not possible to bridge the 2 SCSI buses in the MSA30 MI, since the disks on each bus use the same SCSI IDs."

That last sentence eludes that ganging multiple MSA30 MI's would also duplicate SCSI IDs on the individual A and B buses.
So I believe that only 1 MSA30 MI is permitted per SCSI adapter.

Re: Max MSA30 MI supported per Host Controller

Thanks a lot Stephen.

I think will go with an array based solution then.

Just to let my HP contacts know, do you have a reference or doc-id I can forward for them to check?

Best regards,

Mauricio

If they are HP personnel, they can reach this webpage:
