I have a VG where the Max PE per PV 5887, and this VG only have one disk of 23 GB, I need add another disk (50 GB), I used the vgextend but a warning message appear.
vgextend: Warning: Max_PE_per_PV for the volume group (5887) too small for this
PV (12799).
Using only 5887 PEs from this physical volume.
How can I increase the MAx PE of the VG to add this disk without warnings messages.
Thanks

Re: Max PE on a VG
The default maximum physical volumes in a vg is set to 255 by default.
If you set it lower you will be able to have the available PE's spread over a smaller number of disks, solving this problem.

Re: Max PE on a VG
I have calculated
Max PE*PE size(default 4 mb) =5887*4=23548 MB
So it can't support the 50 GB disk . So U have recreate the VG
Cheers

Re: Max PE on a VG
You can increase default PE size from 4Mb to 16Mb and thus with Max no of PEs, total disk will be utilized.

Re: Max PE on a VG
It appears that you are using LUNs of some sort of storage as neither 23 nor 50GB are standard disk sizes. If yes the problem could be eliminited if you get your new LUN (50GB) divided into two LUNs of 23GB each. You should not have any problems in adding any no. of new LUNs of same sizes to this VG.
MAX_PE_PER_PV can be set only during creation og the VG. Allthough MAX_PE_PER_VG is not limited. MAX_PE_PER_PV is set automatically based upon your largest disk size & PE size parameters during VG creation. The default value is set so that it can access full size of the lrgest disk out of those you have mentioed during vg creation.
It is always recommended to set this higher than this automatically detected value because we always get higher size disks in future.
