maxswapchunks set to 0

I quote from the technical knowledge base,
" The kernel tunable maxswapchunks is used to determine the amount of
swap space that is configurable on the system. Use this formula to
determine the maximum amount of configurable swap space:

Max Swap Space = maxswapchunks * 1024 * swchunk (typically 2048)

Using sysdef I have determined that the maxswapchunks parameter is set to 0. The min max values are 1 - 16384, default at 256. Kctune does not recognize the parameter and kcweb doesnt display it either.

The question is on an Itanium system with 8GB of memory and plenty of disk storage, what would be the ideal setting and how would we achieve this

Re: maxswapchunks set to 0

You don't say what OS version you're running or what if any symptoms you're suffering from, but I've had a look at some of our systems, and maxswapchunks usually tends to be set to 1KB for every 1GB of Physical memory. (e.g. 2048 on a system with 2GB, 8096 on a system with 8GB, etc) I'd suggest starting somewhere around there.

Re: maxswapchunks set to 0

Oops! I meant 8192 for 8GB (4096 for 4GB)
It ALWAYS seems to be set to a power of 2. I'd stick with that.
