In service gaurd 10.11 I wish to start a sybase dataserver as well as replication server. In the same package I wish to start
other additional services.I wish to start up
two java services and a samba service. I need
MC service gaurd to monitor all of the above
services and to take predefined action on the event of a failure of any.Mostly I will require the service to restart.I start and stop the services with the customer start
and stop function command sections provided ,but am having difficulty to setup the monitoring
and restart options. I have not had much success tracing technical media on how this works.
I have downloaded the Managing MC/Servicegaurd pdf ,but this also does not go into any detail of how this should be setup.
Thank You.

Solution
Hi,
You have to write monitor scripts voor every task you wish to control with MC/serviceGuard
We have made one which tries to access the database every few minutes, and used this as
the SERVICE_CMD. If the command fails, you can specify how many times you let it restart
SERVICE_RESTART. I can imagine you can also write a monitor for logfiles and other processes.
So you have to make you own monitors and put these in MC/ServiceGuard.

Re: MC-service gaurd
If you are using Sybase within an MC/ServiceGuard cluster, you could also purchase the Enterprise Cluster Toolkit from HP.
This has sample scripts, and monitors, for various databases including Sybase, and is supported by HP.

My house is the bank's, my money the wife's, But my opinions belong to me, not HP!
