MC Service Guard and Corba ORBs

We have an application using HP-OpenView DM in a ServiceGuard 11.x cluster. Since HPOV is being discontinued, we plan on migrating to a Corba based plattform.

Are there any restrictions on the ORB implementation? Is there a certain ORB that is to be prefered over others, or do I have the free choice? Does ServiceGuard support Corba at all?

Any help would be appreciated

Re: MC Service Guard and Corba ORBs

Hi Guenter

Openview is a platform upon which HP sells many enabling products. It is definitely not going away.
I visited a member of our Openview support team, and she was not familiar with Openview DM. Can you shed some light on the actual name of the product that you say is being discontinued?

I checked the SG Lab's compatibility matrix to see if Corba is listed. It is not.

Re: MC Service Guard and Corba ORBs

Hello Stephen,

Openview DM is a communication suite especially adapted for telecomunication systems. It shows up in swlist as
DMPlatEngHP10 B.05.03 DM TMN Manager Platform

it is based on the OTS stack which lists as

J2160B C.09.02 OSI Trnspt and Srvcs

We have the clear statement by HP that HPOV-DM will reach it's end-of-life status by the end of next year.

Re: MC Service Guard and Corba ORBs

I've implemented a couple of clusters that used Borland's VisiBroker implementation of CORBA buried in the software somewhere - these seem to work fairly well - I'm struggling to remember the gotchas, but I seem to remember you have to ensure that the ORB broadcasts only the virtual IP to requestors, and this only became available above a certain version. If you go with the latest version you should be OK.
