MC Service Guard Certification for non-HP disk arrays.

This question might be more targeted at HP (Which I am already pursuing elsewhere) but you guys are impressive.

Is there a certification process for non-HP disk arrays running on HPUX 11.X to validate a vendor's claim of functionality or support in a HP High Availability environment.

Re: MC Service Guard Certification for non-HP disk arrays.

Hello Andrew,

I have posted both the ServiceGuard lab and "3-rd party mass storage solution specials" groups on your behalf. I've been asked this question before, and would like to put it to bed.

Re: MC Service Guard Certification for non-HP disk arrays.

This just in...

Typically HP will "allow" (but not support) connectivity of third party storage when there is a business case to do so and the third party storage has been tested by HP.

Requesting ServiceGuard support adds an additional level of testing before HP would consider "allowing" this connectivity.

Certifying third party storage for connectivity to HP UNIX Servers is quite a different process. HP is currently investigating offering a program for third party storage vendors, enabling them to have their storage devices certified for HP UNIX Servers.

This program would have a fee associated with it based on the level of certification that is being asked for by the third party storage vendor. This program is still under investigation at this time.

Re: MC Service Guard Certification for non-HP disk arrays.

Doug stated he's "posted both the ServiceGuard lab and 3rd party mass storage solution specials" for MC/ServiceGuard, yet I couldn't find within this thread or anywhere else on HP's website.

Wanting to know if the EMC CLARiiON CX600 device is HP MC/ServiceGuard A.11.14 certified.

Thanks.

Currently these devices are not supported in MC/ServiceGuard

Re: MC Service Guard Certification for non-HP disk arrays.

It is pure speculation on my part but I would bet that EMC and the DX600 are accepted and certified to operate under MC-ServiceGuard because of the huge market presence of EMC and the fact that HP once sold the Nike ( CLARiiON ) Disk Array from Clariion/Data General under the HP logo before EMC purchased DG. My original question was for a SAN device startup that I was consulting at (Who has since gone out of business but EMC snatched up their Intellectual Capital and Engineering group). Their intention was to present the certification to allay the fears of customers about HPUX interoperability rather that proof of functionality. MC-ServiceGuard work flawless on the device but there was never any definitive word from HP about the existence of certification. It might not be feasible but the HP E-VA family is a very good alternative to EMC appears to be more reasonably priced and better performing..

Respectfully

Re: MC Service Guard Certification for non-HP disk arrays.

I found via EMC's June 2003 Support Matrix (p/n 300-000-166) page 631 number 36 that the CX600/400 device is in fact supported with my current servers (N4000) HPUX version 11.0 & MC/ServiceGuard version A.11.14.

Melvyn Burnard, are you saying that HP will not support MC/ServiceGuard A.11.14 running on a CLARiiON CX600? Yet EMC will support it? So, I call EMC with possible storage issues rather than HP? And EMC works with HP 'behind the scenes'? Please let me know HP's official stance. Thanks.

Re: MC Service Guard Certification for non-HP disk arrays.

We were told that HP does support MCSG on Clarion - we were going to migrate one of our Apps to it - but due to performace reasons, we canned it and are going to EMC DMX 800's instead.

Apparently, HP has just certified the DMX1000 in their labs (we were told this from our HP account Rep)
