MC Service guard OS upgrade and migration from VA to EVA

Hi

We have a two node MC serviceguard cluster setup with rp5470 and a N4000 server attached
to VA7100 on hp-ux 11.0.
We have to make below mentioned upgrades/changes to the system.

1. replace the rp5470 node with a rp4440 server.
2. Upgrade the hp-ux version to 11iv1.
3. migrate to EVA4000 from VA7100 for the cluster package data.

To achieve this is it possible to

Build the rp4440 with hp-ux 11iv1 with current MC serviceguard A 11.14 as a single node cluster on the EVA LUN's.

Copy data from the VA7100 to the EVA with mirrordisk and lvextend.

right now the VA and the EVA are in separate SAN's and we hope to connect the rp4440 the EVA
switch primarily.

During data transfer to rp4440 (VA to EVA) we can run the whole cluster packages on the
N4000.

Then rebuild N4000 with HP-UX 11iv1 and join to the new rp4440 cluster as the second node.

for me their is a gray area of transferring data from 11.0 VA cluster to the 11iv1 EVA
cluster.

what are the missing points here and
What would be the best method to do this migration ?

your inputs mostly appreciated.

Re: MC Service guard OS upgrade and migration from VA to EVA

vgexport all of the vgs from all other nodes

connect eva to single system with va disks
not lvextend but pvmove will move lvs from one disk to another.

vgimport disks on other systems from eva disk array.

Re: MC Service guard OS upgrade and migration from VA to EVA

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

when i do the vgexport from VA disks do i need to get it to a map file in sharable option in order to vgimport data to the EVA ?
if i do it is sharable mode will pvmove work ?

I rather prefer to have the VA cluster till the new single node cluster is running stably since it has new versions of applications and databases.

Re: MC Service guard OS upgrade and migration from VA to EVA

Past Serviceguard releases, such as A.11.14 supported a mix of nodes running HP-UX 11.0 and 11iv1 in a cluster. Therefore, it is possible to ADD the new rp4440 server, installed with HP-UX 11iv1, to the rp5470 cluster, even if the rp5470 has HP-UX 11.0 installed. Then attach the new array to the current SAN network and pvmove as recommended.

LVM cannot be used to transfer or mirror data across volume groups, particularly if they don't exist on both servers.
If the new server does not have a connection to old array, then data copy can occur via network (NFS or rcp or the like) or tape media.

Re: MC Service guard OS upgrade and migration from VA to EVA

Thanks

I just could not mention couple of major changes.
Informix and applications will also be upgraded to newer versions as well and these binaries are also installed under the volume group inside the package.
If i connect the new rp4440 to the VA I can make some LUN's free from the VA to install informix and applications to the single node cluster.
And if I do this, is their any LVM method to move LVM's from the old cluster to the new cluster volume group do transfer data.
Or do i stick to a network or tape method to transfer data.

thanks
