MC/SG on different model of node

Hi all,

My server is L2000 running HP-UX 11.0 and MC/SG 11.09. If our boss plan to buy a new model, either K-class, N-class or V-class, can the MC/SG be set up in these different model ?
If so, what other think I should concern ?

Regards,
Patrick

Re: MC/SG on different model of node

Hi Patric,

You can setup different models of servers in your MC/SG cluster. The only thing i can think of is the amount of processing power, amount of storage, SCSI Paths and LAN ports on the new server.

I think HP Manual Managing MC Service guard would be a help. Look at planning a High availability Cluster section in that.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Re: MC/SG on different model of node

One of the ideas behind MC/SG is that you can have various models of system in the same cluster.
The main points to consider are the connectivity, and as you already have a 64bit system, that theh other system(s) should preferably be 64 bit, as I assume you are running a 64bit aplication.
The only major concern would be that the system you add in has the resources to be able to run whatever it is planned to run n it as well as any additional capacity for a package switch within the cluster.
As already mentioned, the Managing MC/ServiceGuard manual is really worthwhile reading, available at:

Re: MC/SG on different model of node

Hi Patrick,

No problem installing MC SG on different nodes ( K L N ... ), the important is to have the same HP-UX version on all of them.

Now I am running MS SG on three nodes ( 2 Ks and 1 L ) and it works fine.

Re: MC/SG on different model of node

The three model are valid to be in a cluster with the L2000 but the K-class are not technologically compatible with the L-class and you won't be able to exchange components (the case can be given). I advise you a N-class, it is seemed the L-class, but much more scalable.
