Hey;
Does anyone know if veritas cluster filesystem is compatible with Serviceguard? I have a suspicion that it's a VCS thing only; however, I'm having difficulty finding any proof one way or the other.
Assuming it is compatible with MCSG, (at a *very* high level) how is it implemented? I'd think you'd have to have the disk groups active on multiple nodes simultaneously which would seem to be a no-no.
Thanks for any info.

Shalom,
The products VCS and MCSG are compatible. HP was aware of Veritas as a product that MCSG had to work with, though it also provides the same services and is a competitive product. I found this information by talking to various people in the know over time.
I would think that you want to for shared volume groups however use one or the other.
With MCSG you can activate a volume group on two nodes in shared mode. You still need an application like Oracle RAC that can handle that to avoid data corruption.
Cluster file system will work in that enivronment and is supposed to provide the same type of service.
To use VCS you would also need to activate the volume group in shared mode and use an appropriate application. What you probably don't need though is SG in this last scenario.

Re: MCSG and VCFS?
Serviceguard is _not_ compatible with Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) - these are 2 seperate cluster solutions and they cannot run at the same time on the same nodes.
However Serviceguard _is_ compatible with the Veritas Cluster Filesystem - basically Veritas and HP got together and unhooked the CFS from VCS and hooked it into Serviceguard... the resulting product is known as "Serviceguard Storage Management Suite Cluster Filesystem" or "Serviceguard Storage Management Suite Cluster Filesystem for Oracle RAC"

Re: MCSG and VCFS?
Hey;
Thanks for the info. I found the CVFS/CVM info in a package control script which gave me the basic answer - you all filled in some other holes for which I'm appreciative.
Thanks again
