We have a Compaq HSV110 (SAN) Disk Array. This SAN is connected to an HP-UX 11.00 Unix system via Securepath. I am trying to setup an MC Serviceguard cluster with the shared VG (vg01) being in the SAN.
The SAN does not support MCSG. When I tried to mark the VG as a cluster aware VG with the 'vgchange -c y vg01', I got an error message stating that "cluster services were unavailable".
Are there any ideas on how to avoid the shared VG from being activated on both systems? Does anyone know of any whitepapers, technical papers that gives info on setting up a cluster with a Compaq SAN?
Thanks in advance to all replies.
Regards,
Suren Selva

Re: MCSG in a Compaq HSV110 SAN.
"cluster services were unavailable" is not because your SAN does not support MCSG. You will have to have the cluster up and running to use vgchange -c y option.
You should be alright as long as you successfully see the disks on both the systems.

Re: MCSG in a Compaq HSV110 SAN.
I don't know how your SAN works.
From the ServiceGuard perspective, as long as both systems can see a common set of disks, you can setup serviceguard.
I do not think floating IP/hostname would come into picture while binding the LUNs to the systems from the array but as I mentioned, I do not have true SAN experience yet.

Solution"HP-UX Kit V2.0 for Enterprise Virtual Array now supports HP MC/ServiceGuard clustering and Oracle configurations. Ensure that you are running with Enterprise Virtual Array VCS code 2.002 and Secure Path Version 3.0A SP1 for HP-UX to support these options"

Re: MCSG in a Compaq HSV110 SAN.
The reason you got the eror message is because there was no cluster activity running on hte node you issued the command, namely cmcld was not running.
