MCSG - Mixed OS Versions - Heterogeneous Cluster
Hi,
I am planning to configure a cluster on systems that run different HP-UX Versions on different hardware platforms.
Basically I have 3 HP-UX boxes,
K580 - 11.11
N4000 - 11.00
RX2600 - 11.23
All the 3 nodes are connected to a VA7410 and all of them have redundant access to the array through Brocade and Cisco SANs.
Well,
1. Is this possible to configure a cluster out of the above configuration? I think 11.0 and 11i can co-exist but I am not too sure about 11.23!
2. What is the version of MCSG that supports this type of configuration?
3. Is there any known issues on having non-identical hardware as the cluster nodes?
Please note that this is not meant for a production environment but only for some testing purposes.
Any input on this is appriciated.
Thanks in advance,
Karthik S S

Re: MCSG - Mixed OS Versions - Heterogeneous Cluster
I asked this very question during SG class. The answer the instructor got back was that this configuration is not supported. At all.
If you're going to try it, make sure the SG version is the same on all three nodes.
Of course I don't know who he talked to but this doesn't sound like great news.

Re: MCSG - Mixed OS Versions - Heterogeneous Cluster
Hi Karthik,
I think as long as the version of SG software is same on all the server, you can have OS at different versions.
However do remember that in such a situation configuring packages to failover from one server to another might be a problem since the application binaries / configuration might be different for different versions of OS.
Hope this helps.

Re: MCSG - Mixed OS Versions - Heterogeneous Cluster
right now you cannot do this
Once 11.23PI is released for PA systems, we wil support SG on 11.23PI, but the version used will not be supported on 11.00
The last version of SG for HP-UX 11.00 is 11.14
and 11.15 onwards is for 11.11 and up, and is the first release supported on 11.23.
We will not, however, support SG in a cluster running both 11.11 and 11.23 at the moment. This may, or may not, change at a later date.
