MCSG Problem

Hello,

Because of the security auditors we disabled many services and applications. Now we are having problems with serviceguard. Here is the output from cmviewcl.

cmviewcl : Unable to determine the number of network interfaces on albert.
Cluster may be reforming. Try again.
cmviewcl : Unable to determine the number of network interfaces on barbara.
Cluster may be reforming. Try again.
cmviewcl : Unable to determine the number of network interfaces on calvin.
Cluster may be reforming. Try again.

The problem is that we changed so many things that we don't know what we did to break it. Please help.

Thanks,
Kris

Re: MCSG Problem

Well, normally I don't have much sympathy for your kind of problem. If YOU don't know what you did, how do you expect ME to know what you did? I'm sure that you have backups of all your changes so that you can easily reverse them. Oh well, I'll use The Force and say that you disabled the identd service. Look in /etc/inetd.conf and see in the ident entry is still valid.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: MCSG Problem

Oh (and because of the way auditors think -- I use that term less than rigourously), I would also check /etc/services to see if the ident service entry is still there. I'm betting that one or both if these is going to fix THIS problem. Now for all the problems that you caused that you don't know about ...

Re: MCSG Problem

Restore your /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/services file from backup and compare the before and after. Any "hacl" entries removed or modified need to be put back. Be sure to "inetd -c" if making changes to inetd.conf

If you don't have a backup, then you can pull the files out of an Ignite-UX archive.

Re: MCSG Problem

Denver is right. It could be the hacl-cfg entries in /etc/inetd.conf but I'm betting that those are so obviously related to MC/SG that you knew not to touch them. Identd, however, is one that is not intuitively obvious but will do just what your symptoms describe.

Re: MCSG Problem

Hi guys,

Thanks very much. I had removed the ident entries. I didn't find in the manuals where this service was required.

Thanks again,
Kris
