Mediainit Scrub Option
In HP-UX 11iv3, the mediainit command comes with a scrub option (-S). You can specify the character used to scrub and the number of passes, but these are optional. The man page states that the default number of passes is 3, but it doesn't give the default scrub character. Does anyone know the character(s) used? Is the same character used for all three passes?

Re: Mediainit Scrub Option
The man page does not say what the default scrub character is. However, if you were to specify your own with the '-c' option and then specify a scrub count of 1 with the '-t' option when using '-S' then you could create you own custom scrub routine by calling mediainit several times.
For example:
mediainit -S -c g -t 1 /dev/rdisk/disk5 # First scrub run with a 'g' as the scrub character
mediainit -S -c 5 -t 1 /dev/rdisk/disk5 # First scrub run with a '5' as the scrub character
mediainit -S -c V -t 1 /dev/rdisk/disk5 # First scrub run with a 'V' as the scrub character
Now you have a disk that has been scrubbed 3 times with different characters.

Re: srubbing disks with Mediainit Scrub Option
mediainit man page:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02261171/c02261171.pdf
(the default character is not mentioned)
Character “U” is 01010101 in binary, not a bad value, isn't it?
# mediainit -S -V -c U -t 3 /dev/rdisk/diskXX
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
