memory error in my root log file

Dear Expert,

I have the below error in my log file.
Please tell me what is the problem and the recommendation.

detail error as per attached

thanks

Event Time..........: Fri Jul 18 19:54:03 2008
Severity............: CRITICAL
Monitor.............: dm_memory
Event #.............: 1300
System..............: tamcodb1.tamco.com.my

Summary:
Memory Event Type : A memory page has been deallocated and entered into
the Page Deallocation Table (PDT).

Description of Error:

The Page Deallocation Table (PDT) is 94% full.

PDT Entries Used: 241
PDT Entries Free: 15
PDT Total Size: 256

An excessive number of memory pages have been deallocated due to
excessive correctable single bit errors being detected. Although the
errors are being corrected, this condition indicates a potential
problem.

Probable Cause / Recommended Action:

The Page Deallocation Table (PDT) is in danger of overflowing, it is
strongly advisable to closely monitor the situation. Although the errors
are being corrected, this condition indicates a potential problem. Contact
your HP support representative to check the memory boards.

Re: memory error in my root log file

Hi,

Looks like Memory DIMMS are having an issue.
Log a case with HP support/Response Center for a confirm check.

Also, use STM for memory errors.

Re: memory error in my root log file

The cause and the recommendation are described very well here.

You should call HP and have them check your RAM. You have at least 1 DIMM that probably needs to be replaced.

Re: memory error in my root log file

Most of the attached log is not related.

Try

echo "selclass qualifier memory;info;wait;infolog" | /usr/sbin/cstm

to get some details, but obviously you have a problem with bad memory.
Ask support for analyzing and replacement.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: memory error in my root log file

Hi,

your RAM/DIMM in slot 1b is defect.
As told in your log file, the os can correct a number of memory errors (256).
You have 241 different errors now.

If you get more than 256, your ws can hang up.

So if you need a high availability you should change this DIMM soon.
If you don't have a support contract, you also can lower your RAM from 4GB to 3GB - remove the DIMMs in slot 1b and 1a and move DIMMs from 2a/b to 1a/b.

Re: memory error in my root log file

Hi,

EMS events are great because they are very detailed. I (we) suggest following the Recommended Action and check memory, that error is an HW problem about memory and you should open a call by HP asap.

Best regards,
Fabio
