Memory fault from "top" command

What is causing a "memory fault" when I issue the "top" command?
I am running HPUX 10.20, HP9000, J2240 box.

since you mentioned memory fault, I am assuming this is followed by a phrase "coredump"

you should have a file name core in the directory where you invoked top from.

run commands

file core

and

what core

they will give both you and us here what to look for.

most probably you are lacking some patches.

Almost certainly you need the top cumulative patch, PHCO_22556.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

swlist -l product | grep PHCO_22556

If you get no answer get the patch here:

http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.search|&patchid=PHCO_22556&context=hpux:800:10:20

save it on your hp machine

sh PHCO_22556

swinstall -s $PWD/PHCO_22556.depot \*
