MEMORY SUPPORT ON HP-UX 10.20

i have a HP9000/D270 M/c on which i 've upgraded the memory to 1GB from 256MB.

It is detecting 1GB at PDC (Firmware ver - 36.7) but showing only 512MB once
the system boot up. I have used 'getmem' command. it gives the output - 512.

is there any kernel version / patch need to cheked fo this ?

Re: MEMORY SUPPORT ON HP-UX 10.20

This MAY be a limitation of the Firmware for this system. There has been a
couple of PDC release that are newer than the one you state, and include
support for the newer 512MB RAM modules.
I would strongly advise contacting your local HP support centre to have this
firmware updated, although it can be obtained via the ITRC Support pages. You
have to be 100% certain that you have the CORRECT firmware foir the CORRECT
system, otherwise it could result in having to have a board replaced, or so I
understand.
The lates release for the D270/1 or D270/2 appears to be:

Patch Name: PF_CULU3840

Patch Description: HP 9000 Dx70/Dx80/R380 Firmware revision
38.40

| C A U T I O N |

Install this Firmware update ONLY on models listed below.
DO NOT attempt to install this Firmware update on any other system model as
this will render that system inoperable.
This patch is a Firmware update for the following systems ONLY:

R380/1, R380/2

This patch is a Firmware update for the HP9000 Model
Dx70/Dx80 and R380

Re: MEMORY SUPPORT ON HP-UX 10.20

/usr/sam/lbin/getmem is an unsupported command. I have never seen it work
correctly on systems having greater than 512MB. I suggest you go into
SAM->Performance Monitrs->System Properties->Memory. That WILL show the amount
of properly installed memory.

Good Luck!

Re: MEMORY SUPPORT ON HP-UX 10.20

You added 764 Mb of memory -
was this all 256 Kb Modules?
If not, then make sure your largest memory module is in BANK 0, then fill up in
the sequence from largest memory to smallest memory.

Your memory mapping typically will not exceed the module in 0.
