Message in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

We have HP-UX 11.0. An unusual message appears several times in syslog.log:
vmunix:btlan3 :MII Link Status Not OK-Check Cable Connection to Hub/Switch at....

The message is unusual because cable connection is OK
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Re: Message in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

This is reporting a network problem , more than likely either a cable problem or a problem with a switch or hub being switch off. The message is just HP's way of saying its lost an active network connection.

Lora,

I could be a temporary condition, i.e. someone unplugged the cable and then plugged back in or the hub was quickly rebooted, etc...are you getting a lot of these messages?

Re: Message in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

Hello,

We have a K box here that used to get them all the time. We blamed it on bad network wiring until we moved all our equipment to a new data center in another building, with all new cabling. We kept getting the message, so HP came out and replaced the LAN card and it finally stopped.

Re: Message in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

Are you getting other messages from the btlan subsystem, something to the effect that the connection was restored?

There seems to be another forum thread for this problem and they point to the network connection was moved from one lan card to another:

Re: Message in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

Hi Lora,

Looks like there could be a networking problem. Maybe not with the card or the cable, but with the other components of the netwok. HUB/Switches or something like that.

However there is one patch which is a solution to symptoms like this. That is PHNE_22244. You can check the availability of this patch on your system
swlist -l product |grep PHNE_22244

I have this patch on my box. I just checked.

Here is a link to this patch.

Hope this helps.

Re: Message in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

Lora,

maybe you could change the port in the hub or switch to where this K class is connected, just to isolate the problem. If it works OK in the new port, maybe a problem of the HUB/SWITCH.

Regards.
