Microsoft Services For UNIX (SFU 3.0) as UNIX-Microsoft Connectivity via NFS

Anyone using Microsoft SFU on their NT/2K Infrastructure to share out filesystems via NFS to HPUX Servers? We are looking at alternatives for HPUX boxen to be able to connect reliably to NT/2K Shares. We are having tons of problems with CIFS/9000 Client connecting to NT/2K Shares -- specially accross WAN links.

Just my 2 cents... Are you up to the latest and greatest patches for CIFS? Have you logged a call with the response center to discuss CIFS over WAN? IMHO NFS would be much more troublesome and unreliable over a slow link.

You are probably having network problems.

NFS is not any more robust in such sitations.

If you export a filesystem via NFS and you have added the client software to Windows, you should be able to do what you want to do.

I'd look at the network issues. CIFS is a better solution if the network connection is stable enough and fast enough.

I'm using that very same Windows Unix software, and I gotta tell you. These guys are right. CIFS or Samba is a much better solution. I'm putting in a Samba solution now, and so far, it looks much, much better.

Okay.. but any suggestions on what timeout values to use in cifsclient.cfg? Our problematic shares are accross a DS3 WAN that's relatively light... We've already upgraded to A.01.08 (from A.01.07) and doubled the timeout values but still getting the same hangups...

Any of you ever looked up commercial CIFS client implementations like Sharity?

I agree to share out UNIX Filesystems - Samba rules and is very stable and fast! But what about UNIX mounting NT/2k Resources? SAMBA is still focused on the server side not the client piece....
