midaemon error - main - unable to initialize the trace subsystem

midaemon won't stay up. /var/opt/perf/status.mi shows this:
midaemon: Tue Jul 30 14:16:54 2002
main - unable to initialize the trace subsystem
No space left on device.

df -k doesn't show any devices near full except the cdrom.

Does anyone know what the solution to this might be?

It's running on a Sun Fire 6800 with 20GB RAM, and 20x900MHz cpu's and 24x36.42GB disk drives.

Re: midaemon error - main - unable to initialize the trace subsystem

Because midaemon is intimately associated with kernel structures, patches, especially to the kernel, can confuse midaemon. Get the latest version of midaemon (and Glance/Measureware). df may not be accounting for a recently purged file which is still open on /var. To verify this, create a new volume, move the /var/opt/perf directory structure to the new volume and replace /var/opt/perf with a symlink to the new volume. Mystery space (caused by removed but open files) is a common problem with many flavors of Unix.
