migrating SAN - is there any command you have to run for /dev/td0?

Hi everyone.

We're migrating from HP EVAs to IBM SVC.
My hpux box has been presented to the SVC, but SVC doesnt pick it up yet.

Does anyone know if there is any command I have to run on my HP server, when you are changing SAN??

Much appreciated

hi;
1- first you must present the vdisks from SVC to the hp box.
2- after make an ioscan.
3- and finally make an insf -eCdisk

Re: migrating SAN - is there any command you have to run for /dev/td0?

Thanks for getting back - we did all that, but our HPUX server is not picking up the SVC disks.

The only thing I noticed was that after unpresenting from EVA, and presenting to SVC, SVC did not automatically see the HPUX servers WWPN - I had to type it in manually.

For any other type of server eg VMS / AIX / Tru64 - SVC picked up newly available WWPN.

Thats why I was wondering if there is anything else you have to do on the HPUX box, to release it from EVA, and make it available to SVC SAN.

Thanks

from SVC can you see the hp box from 2 HBA ?
there may be 2 FC Adapter Port to the SAN storage.i mean SVC should see the hp box from two different way.
and check the right WWN of the FC adapter ports.

and pls check the zonning at the SAN switch.
If there is a zone for SVC you must add the hp box to that zone.

Thanks for replying mustafa

The guy who looks after the zoning assures me that it is zoned to the SVC.
The server only has one fibre card â when I added the host in SVC, the WWNs were not listed in the box, so I manually added WWPN 50060b0000600a08 to the host. I then added the disks, and mapped them to the hosts.
But the hpux server is not picking them up.

You may have to do use the "replace_dsk" feature of the fcmsutil. Take a look at the man page. If you have not rebooted the server, and you are allowed to reboot it, do so, the "replace_dsk" is done automatically.
Otherwise look into runing the "replace_dsk" for each of the N_Ports of the old devices.

What does ioscan show under the fc HBA device? Is the fcp there? Or any target devices?

Ask him to show you the zoning. You verify that the server port from your server is zoned to the SVC port and more importnatly that the zoning config for the server-SVC zone is enabled.

Re: migrating SAN - is there any command you have to run for /dev/td0?

One other thought.

It is typically NOT the OSs fault that storage cannot be seen. The configuration of the SAN completely determines who can and cannot see the storage.

Perhaps IBM's support sight would also help ?

( ps the reason you had to add the WWN for the server manually was because the SVC could not see the server )
