Migration from K class to D class

We have 2 K class Server with HP-UX 11.00. We need to migrate it from K Class to D class. We know that we don't have anyother way other than a fresh installation on D class.

If you guys are having some different idea, please let us know.

Re: Migration from K class to D class

If you have any external disks, you can simply vgimport them into your new OS. I would re-install the CoreOS from CD. If your D-box is a D-X70 or above, you can run 64-bit 11x but only if you first remove all EISA cards.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Migration from K class to D class

Hi Clay,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Now both the K clas is connected with an AutoRAID. IT is booting from the AutoRAID. And the D class is having the HSC SCSI Cotroller. So there is no EISA Card.

Yes we have also planned so. We will install the Core OS in different LUN and then we will import the other volume groups.

Re: Migration from K class to D class

Hi Sandip

Here it goes :

1. check for the HP UX versions interms of bits . Incase 64 bit version runs on teh D clas then you amy also want to looka t the memory and the root disk space.

2. I would suggest a fresh install of HPUX , then moving the data disks across the systems , using vgexport and vgimport .

Reload the applications .

Re: Migration from K class to D class

Hi Sandip:

I would suggest you to install the OS on a new disk if you have an additional disk with you. This way you can keep the original disk with you and import it to a new VG and access it if needed. This will be helpful while creating user accounts, network parameters and while configuring files under /etc. Also, you will get some applications files too from the old root HDD for reference.

Make recovery tapes and full backups. Print out the VG informations, network and software listings. Make the map files while you export the VGs. Update the D class firmware if needed before you do the OS installation. Also check and make sure that you have all the controllers/cards which can support the devices.

Re: Migration from K class to D class

X.25 does *NOT* work on D class with 64 bit 11.00 kernel! I fyou need X.25, you must install a 32bit kernel

Re: Migration from K class to D class

Hi Sandip,
If you have any other D class machine is running with same set of required softwares, you can create an Ignite image from that machine and reload to D class machine. Later you can restore the backup from K class machine.
or else import the volume groups to D class from K class....if you are able to do so.
