Re: Mirror Disk License Info (HPUX11.11)

The first step is to make sure MirrorDisk is installed:

# swlist |grep -i mirror
B2491BA B.11.11 MirrorDisk/UX

Thanks for the response.

Yes. Mirror disk is installed.

irnnmpdc:/ > swlist |grep -i mirror
B5403BA B.11.11 MirrorDisk/UX

What is the next step?

Re: Mirror Disk License Info (HPUX11.11)

Next step depends on what you want to mirror? Are you mirroring your vg00 (OS disks?) or wanted to create mirrored volumes?

Re: Mirror Disk License Info (HPUX11.11)

There really isn't any "license" information available. In order to install Mirror Disk, you had to have a "code word" to unlock it from the Applications CD set, or you have to have purchased it and downloaded the depot from the ITRC.

Once the software is installed on the server there is nothing else to do. There are no license keys to enter or anything like that.

You could look in /var/adm/sw/.codewords and see what code words are listed there, but they won't tell you much.

The only other license you should have is a license certificate saying you purchased MirrorDisk.

If it's already installed then you are ready to mirror. Attached is a procedure to mirror your root volume group - others would be similar, without all the bootable stuff.

Thank you for the responses.

We are rebuilding the server from scratch and wondered when we go to reinstall mirror disk on the server, where do we get the code word we used when you installed it initially?

Re: Mirror Disk License Info (HPUX11.11)

Shalom Chad,

If its installed, there is a license keyword installed in the system. You can look at it with swinstall.

ITs in a file in /var/adm/sw/.codewords

Other license information for the software is actually on a piece of paper you should have on file.

The dead tree method.

Chad C.

Easiest would be to contact HP and tell them the Server's serial numbers - they'll give you the codeword to get your MirrorDisk/UX software from the APPS/CD/Ignite-UX server.

Don't you have a "GOlden Image" that contains pre-installed MirrorDisk/UX, etc?

Re: Mirror Disk License Info (HPUX11.11)

Usually the easiest way to find serial numbers is to look on the machine itself. There is supposedly a way to check with cstm, but that doesn't always work.

What you really need is to make sure you have a support contract and then give HP that contract number when you call in.

Re: Mirror Disk License Info (HPUX11.11)

You are running 11.11, so this must be a PA-RISC machine.

Run mstm, select the "system" item, run the info tool. You will find the serial nuber there.

Or run
/usr/bin/ignite/print_manifest

Hope this helps!

Re: Mirror Disk License Info (HPUX11.11)

Get your serial number (assuming it's running 11.11 still):

root# getconf CS_MACHINE_SERIAL

Enjoy.

Re: Mirror Disk License Info (HPUX11.11)

and for codewords you can go to. :

www.licensing.hp.com and with your information get your codewords.

In addition, at #1-800-538-1733 with your SAID you could get your codewords too, that # is the HP licensing department.

Re: Mirror Disk License Info (HPUX11.11)

Chad,

After you have the server rebuilt, you may want to take an ignite image of it. That way you have all of the purchased software plus any system customizations on tape (or on the ignite server)

Then the next time you want to rebuild the server all you will have to do is restore the ignite image and re-mirror the disks (ignite does not mirror automatically)

All of your OS software, plus any customizations, software, utilities, on the disk in vg00 will be already installed.
