I have HP9000 G30 server and i have installed Mirror-UX software and then mirrored the 1st disk 4.3GB with 2nd 4.3GB. here is the commands i used ,
1st disk = /dev/dsk/c0t0d0
2nd disk = /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
# pvcreate -B /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
# vgextend vg00 /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
# mkboot /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0
# lvextend -m 1 /dev/vg00/lvol1 /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
# lvextend -m 1 /dev/vg00/lvol2 /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
# lvextend -m 1 /dev/vg00/lvol3 /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
# lvextend -m 1 /dev/vg00/lvol4 /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
. . and all the lvol under vg00 ..
# lvlnboot -R /dev/vg00
# lvlnboot -v /dev/vg00
Now i shutdown the system and physically removed the first disk , i.e c0t0d0.
And given " boot 52.1.0.0.0.0.0 " i.e c0t1d0
But it is hanging in "Booting ..."
Can any one help me out to how to solve this problem . In case of a disk failure i want to keep it ready.
Thanks in advance ,
Raj D.

Hi,
did u tried it only with the 1st Disc pulled out?
What happens if u choose the altenate path to boot with both disc installed.
Execute "mkboot -a "-lq" /dev/rdsk/

Solutionmkboot -a "hpux -lq" /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0
mkboot -a "hpux -lq" /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0
When you run "lvlnboot -v /dev/vg00", make sure your both Boot, Root, and Swap are set and that both of your disks are listed. If not, run:
lvlnboot -r /dev/vg00/lvol3 /dev/vg00 # This is root
lvlnboot -b /dev/vg00/lvol1 /dev/vg00 # this is stand lvol
lvlnboot -s /sev/vg00/lvol2 /dev/vg00 # this is swap area.

Re: Mirrored DISK not Booting .HP-UX 11.00
Hi,
well, then it has to be what everybody here said.
The "less quorum" option.
I'm sure it boots fine after u changed it.

Re: Mirrored DISK not Booting .HP-UX 11.00
thanks to all who replied ,
My problem still not solved ,
I have done this
# mkboot -a "hpux -lq /stand/vmunix" /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0
Now after shutdown and i disconnected /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 .
when i boots from alt path , it asks
Interact with ISL (Y/N) N
Booting ....
and hangs there.
But i have connected c0t0d0 alone. And its boot. At ISL it shows " hpux -lq .."
What could be the problem as c0t1d0 not booting.
Regards ,
Raj.

Re: Mirrored DISK not Booting .HP-UX 11.00
do sea ipl
Does it list your second disk??
If not, you have problems with disk/disk's lif area.
Boot from primary disk then, and repeat the whole procedure.

Re: Mirrored DISK not Booting .HP-UX 11.00
mkboot -l /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
Also, you can check the contents of the LIF area with:
lifls /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
As a minimum you should see:
ISL AUTO HPUX PAD LABEL

Re: Mirrored DISK not Booting .HP-UX 11.00
John , here is the output of
#lvlnboot -v /dev/vg00
Boot Defination for Volume Group /dev/vg00:
Physical volumes belongs in Root Volume Group;
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0(52.0.0) -- Boot Disk
/dev/dsk/c0t1d0(52.1.0) -- Boot Disk
Boot: lvol1 on: /dev/dsk/c0t0d0
/dev/dsk/c0t1d0
Root: lvol3 on: same
Swap: lvol2 on: same
Dump: lvol2 on: /dev/dsk/c0t0d0,0
---
#lifls /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
gives
ISL AUTO HPUX PAD LABEl
Thanks , if there is no way i can do the whole procedure once again and let u know.
Thanks ,
Raj.

Re: Mirrored DISK not Booting .HP-UX 11.00
I assume your single disk worked without being mirrored...
I would remove it and start from scratch again on the mirror disk... Using the commands I showed from the link I provided...
Start from scratch on this disk so you know where you are at all times...
I think the situation maybe confused a bit now.

Re: Mirrored DISK not Booting .HP-UX 11.00
Your output looks okay. The only thing that bothers me it the mkboot command you ran. Everytime I've mirrored disks, I always used the "-l" (that the letter not the number) option. According to the man pages this option is required to mirror LVM disks.

Re: Mirrored DISK not Booting .HP-UX 11.00
Quorums dont come in to picture till the time VG00 is getting activated.
So, I dont see a problem with quorum setting.
pvcreate -B /dev/dsk/c0t1d0
I am sure it is a typo but pvcreate will only take a raw device file as input.
I sense some problem with your mirror disk. Try a mediainit and then start from scratch
# mediainit /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0
# pvcreate -B /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0
# mkboot /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0
# mkboot -a "hpux -lq" /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0
# vgextend
# lvextend
# lvlnboot -R
# lvlnboot -v
# setboot
# shutdown -r -y 0

Look at this thread http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=605920
In order to build mirroring for a system disk you can use the attached script.
lvreduce and vgreduce previously

Re: Mirrored DISK not Booting .HP-UX 11.00
In continuation with the above .. i would like to share the rest things with all ,
Well acoording to u all , i started the mirroring of c0t1d0 from scracth , and did all the steps carefully. Took 2 hr. removed disk0 and found same problem. It was stucking after ISL> and stucked at " Booting ..."
Let me tell u about the Hardware i am using :
Its
HP9000 G30 , HP-UX B.11.00 / 32MB RAM.
0th Disk = SEAGATE 4.3GB ST34520W Ultra Wide. 68Pin.
1st Disk[c0t1d0] = SEAGATE CHEETAH ST39102LC Hot Swap.
I am using one convertor for this Hot Swap disk. to convert HS-50Pin conncetor.
My SCSI chain is 50 Pin SCSI cable.
So i doubt on the convertor HS-50Pin , which may not be causing it to boot.
---
I Then connected another 1GB SCSI norrow HDD . And done all the steps. But i mirroed
boot [100MB] / swap [250MB] / root [ 500MB]
And after removing c0t0d0 , found its starts booting.
Conclusion: So i have to change the HDD 9GB and to get a 4.3 GB Disk and ll do the mirror. My purpose will be solve.
Thanks to all , specially ,
* * Victor , Todd , Dino , John , RAC , Sundar and who all replied. * *
10 points to all who had given the complete mirroring info & guidelines. Thanks
Raj D.

Re: Mirrored DISK not Booting .HP-UX 11.00
There is a nice detailed document about mirroring boot disk in the ITRC database.
You should search it by Document id: LVMKBRC00005103
It answers your question in detail. Print that document for future reference.

How to create a Mirrored Boot Disk on PA-RISC Systems - Cookbook DocId: LVMKBRC00005103 Updated: 5/6/04 10:09:00 AM
PROBLEM
By using mirror copies of the root or primary swap logical volumes on another disk, I will be able to use the copies to keep my system in operation, if either of these logical volumes fail.
How can I create a mirrored boot disk?
