Hello All:
I have a RP5470 a single 18GB internal disk connected to a SC10 Disk (with 8x18GB disks)subsystem via a 4si (A5856) RAID controller.
Questions:
Can I configure a bootable lun on the external disk subsystem?
Can I mirror an internal disk (in the RP5470) with one on the SC10? and boot from it?
Rgds

Solution
You have to select a lun and have to configure as boot disk. You can't take out a single disk from SC10 for mirroring because you are connected through a RAID controller.
You can mirror the root disk with a LUN and can boot from it.

Re: Mirroring & RAID
You may want to check http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/J6173-90005/J6173-90005.html to learn about the boot capabilities and restrictions of the RAID 4Si product.
By the way, please be aware that we recommend you update to the U.01.06 card firmware, if your card does not contain it already. The firmware is available via an HP-UX patch from the ITRC (PHSS_26279 or PHSS_26530). You can check which firmware you have with the "irdiag" command.
One restriction related to boot is that you cannot update the card's firmware if it is the boot device.

Re: Mirroring & RAID
You really should buy another internal 18GB disk and Mirror software (if you do not already have it) from HP. You can then mirror your root disk onto this new one.
The mirroring software from HP (MirrorDisk I believe) is done on the logical volume level (as opposed to disk .. disk). This means it is essential to mirror the first 3 logical volumes (lvol1 /stand, lvol2 swap+dump & lvol3 /) in that order other wise you will not be able to boot from them.
