I have a setup of 2 HP rx4640 server with hpux 11i v2 on it..itanium processor.
I would like to check whether mirroring is there or not...
From the below info i suppose mirroring is not done.
now how do i come to know the exact disk path of my second internal disk and how do i mirror it as i havent mirrored itanium server boot disk...also can i do it online...?

Solutionthe info
# lvlnboot -v
Boot Definitions for Volume Group /dev/vg00:
Physical Volumes belonging in Root Volume Group:
/dev/dsk/c2t0d0s2 (0/1/1/0/4/0.0.0) -- Boot Disk

Swap: lvol2 on: /dev/dsk/c2t0d0s2
Dump: lvol2 on: /dev/dsk/c2t0d0s2, 0
indicates there is only 1 boot disk.
BUT,
disk 1 0/1/1/0/4/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP LOGICAL VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c2t0d0 /dev/dsk/c2t0d0s3 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0s2
/dev/dsk/c2t0d0s1 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0s3
/dev/dsk/c2t0d0s2 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0s1
indicates this is a *hardware RAID*!
"HP LOGICAL VOLUME" is telling this.
So the disk looks like hardware mirrored and not LVM mirrored.
A full "ioscan -fn" may be helpful.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Mirroring on itanium server
Software Mirroring is not set up.
You if you have disk can get mirror/ux and do it with software.
You may also be able to get a smart array and do your mirroring with hardware just like with a DL380. The rx6600 and rx3600 series now have a hardware raid card available.

As you can see, you have a smartarray controller installed:
PCI-X SmartArray 6402 RAID Controller
/dev/ciss2
This HARDWARE RAID is serving your boot disk:
HP LOGICAL VOLUME /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0s2
Please run
# sautil /dev/ciss2
to get more information about the RAID config.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Mirroring on itanium server
that means even if my boot disk fails the control would be automatically transferred to other boot disk..right...
and after replacing failed boot disk it would resync on its own ..no command would be needed right..
Thanx for being patient with me...very very thnx...

Re: Mirroring on itanium server
Rx are itanium systems, and as such, they have a bit different disk layout for boot disks. Reasons why your pvdisplay commands on c2t0d0s1 and c2t0d0s3 and whole c2t0d0 failed were:
These three guys (drive and 2 partitions) are not part of LVM, so using pvdisplay on them where there are no lvm structures on those disks is useless (and might confuse some people). c2t0d0 is the whole disk from the view of OS. c2t0d0s1 is system partition (500M) with efi stuff. c2t0d0s3 is service partition (400M) with diagnostics. This partitioning is valid only for boot disks on itaniums. All other disks are treated as usual.
