mkfs error

I have installed Veritas Volume Manager and VCS. When i try to create a filesystem mkfs comes and says mkfs:vxfs /dev/vx/rdsk/dg1/vol1 is VxVM device: mkfs failed.

Can't understand why mkfs fails to create volumes in VxVM device. Any pointers is highly appreciated.

Re: mkfs error

Hi,

Use the newfs command

newfs -F vxfs /dev/vx/rdsk/dg_name/lv_name

Hope this helps.

Re: mkfs error

I am getting the same error message,

newfs -F vxfs /dev/vx/rdsk/dg1/vol1
vxfs mkfs: /dev/vx/rdsk/dg1/vol1 is a VxVM volume device, cannot mkfs
