mod_deflate and Apache

I'm trying to get HTTP compression (mod_deflate) working with Apache 2.0.52 from the Web Server Suite on HP-UX 11.11i.

The documentation says it requires zlib installed to work. Sure enough if I try to enable mod_deflate from Webmin without zlib installed I get an error message telling me that libz.sl couldn't be found at /usr/local/lib.

If I install zlib from the depot file, it installs into /usr/local/lib, but now when I enable mod_deflate I get an error message saying /usr/lib/dld.sl couldn't find /usr/lib/libz.sl.

First it expects it at /usr/local/lib, then it expects it at /usr/lib? Anyone out there have experience with mod_deflate or any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: mod_deflate and Apache

cd /opt/hpws/apache/modules and run

chatr mod_deflate.so

libz should be in the shared lib path and shlib path should be enabled.

Chek the SHLIB_PATH setting for the www user and make sure it has the path to libz. restart apache and mod_deflate should work.

Re: mod_deflate and Apache

The chatr mod_deflate.so command suggested above revealed that mod_deflate was looking for the library in /opt/hpws/apache/lib.

I copied libz.sl into that directory and now it works.
