Modem configuration in 10.20

My boot disk failed so I had to install hpux 10.20 again. Data restore was fine, but I can't install the modems. I have six different ones connected to a MUX then to the E25 server. I install the modems using SAM, and it was able to create the apropriate device files. All modems have the same phone number (the swithing is made by the Telecom company). The problem is that I can't have a DTR signal in the modems. Getty is working ok, but I'm not sure if additional parameter are needed. Are there other config files to change?

Thanks,

Ricardo Rocha

Check out the docs site.
This one should have the answer - works for me;

The problem is that an E25 server doesn't have GSP, so I can??t use de Ctrl+B option.

Thanks

Re: Modem configuration in 10.20

ok generally the DTR not comming up is related to a hardware cause , if you can see a ttyd running for each appropriote port this can mean 2 things , eithert the ports used are not modem signals capable , it is in fact possible that your mux has terminal style port and no mdp panel with modem signals however i strongly doubt it , the lost likely culprit is the cable , the cable on a hp-ux type of mux to a modem should be a crossed one , this means in technical terms , a modem is a DCE type of device (data communication equipment) , the port son a mux are also DCE oriented , the rule to observe is DCE to DTE (data terminal equipment) e.g terminal is to use a straigt cable , for DCE to DCE you need a crosscable , unfortunately most modems you buy are delivered supposedly intended for use with PC's even if the work on other devices also , and the cable delivered is a straigt as the port on a PC is a DTE type of signal , so check if your cable is correct and then I think you problem will be fixed , for a correct layout of the cable to use you are better to contact your local responce center
(normally the product nr to order would be 40233A)

Re: Modem configuration in 10.20

Thanks for the immediate answer. The problem is that the modems worked before. Now after a HPUX re-installation it doesn't work. All cables and equipment remain the same. I would say that I have a configuration issue here.

Thank you

Re: Modem configuration in 10.20

could be , are you sure the getty isn't spinning , if you do ps -ef | grep getty looking at the ttyd for your port several times in a row does the PID change ?? if so that could explain why you don't see a DTR

Perfomed ps -ef and PID is static. I've seen the file /etc/inittab and it looks the same as the previous.
