Modem configuration
I'm using a PC (with Windows NT and a application for remote access through of a modem) to dial in to my HP-UX 10.20 system (Server HP9000 D220) via a modem and analogue phone line. When I make the call I see lights on the modem (USRobotics V90-V92. This modem is new and it has 8 DIP switches) come on and the sound indicating that the call is being processed. I then see a terminal screen on the PC indicating a successful connection. But I don't get a login prompt at all. My terminal screen stays blank. It appears that the HP Server is not sending a login prompt when a modem connection is established.
/usr/sbin/getty is running.
I have already a serial port (DB 9 male) configured in the server HP9000 D220, as modem (configured by SAM as /dev/ttyd1p0, for remote access through of telephone line. I have realized the steps of the "Additionally Configuring HP-UX for a Modem" document, but the modem not sendthe prompt (login) a the terminal's screen from where I am calling.
Can anyone suggest why?
Many thanks and regards!!

Re: Modem configuration
Hello,
Looks like the /etc/gettydefs file need some modification.
add thsi line in gettydefs file..
19200N # B19200 HUPCL IGNPAR ICRNL IXON OPOST ONLCR CS8 CREAD
ISIG ICANON ECHO ECHOK IXANY TAB3
# B19200 SANE CS8 IXANY TAB3 HUPCL
#login: #19200N
Also make changes inittab file to read this entry from gettydefs file by changing it 19200N
Re-read inittab file by
inetd -c
Goodluck
-USA..

Re: Modem configuration
Hi
You can ensure the following things.
1. Just connect dumb terminal on that port to find out whter you are getting a login prompt or not. If not then you need to check for the cable and setting of the port.
2. Check for the cable connection , I think from the Server to the modem it should be staright cable ie 2-2 3-3 and 7-7 and on the PC side it should be 2-3 3-2 and 7-5 PC side is 9 pin , this you can check by just reversing or using a cross cable in path .Most probably this shouls be reason for the prompt not coming if you say that getty is running.
