is there a command that will allow me to display the current status of each of the printer queues with respect to the entries that are modifiable by the modifyqueue command ?

Unfortunately no. The options in modifyqueue re stored in each printer script and the code in /opt/hpnpl/admin is pretty convoluted to pick out the status.

Given the options that are available in modifyqueue, the -r off -t off can be applied to all queues for reliability, and -b off is a fast way to turn off the banner page. The rest are printer specific. hppi will show the options by selecting Modify.
