monitor frequency setting

Ladies and Gents,

I have been fiddling around with a HP UX 9000 series 712-100 box over christmas.

I encountered a problem, post installation of HP UX 11 (not software related but hardware).

All I was really trying to do was to connect the box up to my PC monitor. This resulted in it complaining about the frequency setting.

I haven't had chance to play with the setting yet in order to get a visual of the CDE, but I was curious as to whether anyone might know what frequency setting I should be changing it to? in addition, why does this setting need changing?

thanks guru's (hope I haven't been MR ambiguity)

Re: monitor frequency setting

Well it will certainly allow you to change the frequency / set the monitor type. You can also achieve this via Sam-> Display -> monitor Config or possibly setmon.

I'd try monitor setting (1) usually works or 1280x1024 - 75 Hz but it will depend upon the range of frequencies you monitor supports I guess.

ps since this is a 712 workstation I'll assume it has a graphics card installed.

Re: monitor frequency setting

Hi,
The normal monitors are not compatible with HP machines. HP has its own graphical monitors for which to use you need to have graphics card in your system.
If wanted to access the system you should have a console. if you don't have console then you can have web console using which you can access the console thru your normal monitor.

Re: monitor frequency setting

When the system starts up, you can repeatedly press the 'tab' key. (In theory, you should press it a few times when the keyboard lights start flashing, but you can start hitting the key from the moment you switch the system on. This way, you are sure you're not too late).

This will bring the machine in monitor configuration mode and scan all available and possible monitor settings. This way, you can see what configurations are possible (frequency and resolution) and choose the one you like the most.

Re: monitor frequency setting

Thanks people,

I think I was a little ambiguous in my explanation!

Wim,

I don't know what hat you pulled that solution out of but it worked perfectly, thanks a lot!
