mounting a cdfs cdrom on a hpux 11.11 system

I added the necessary statement to the /etc/fstab and then I tried to mount the cdrom.(mount -F cdfs -o /dev/dsk/c1t1d0 /SD_CDROM) but I keep getting a 'device busy' message. Note, I also tried numerous combination of the mount commands, and I still get the 'device busy' message. Note. This is a local device on my workstation, not a remote device.
Please help..

Silly recommendation, but make sure you're not in /SD_CDROM. Are you?

Hi,
Couple of things - verify that you have the proper device

ioscan -kfnC disk

and use the following command:

mount -F cdfs -o cdcase /dev/dsk/c1t1d0 /SD_CDROM

Also check that nothing was mounted using pfs_mount
ps -ef | grep pfs
If pfs_mountd & pfs_statd are running you may have to reboot to get that CD mounted. Kills usually won't stop them.

Re: mounting a cdfs cdrom on a hpux 11.11 system

Hi,

IS your syntax correct,

mount -F cdfs -o /dev/dsk/c1t1d0 /SD_CDROM

Shouln't it be

mount -F cdfs -o cdcase /dev/dsk/c1t1d0 /SD_CDROM

Hope this helps.

Re: mounting a cdfs cdrom on a hpux 11.11 system

Sorry guys, but I'm still getting 'device busy' message. I checked the pfs_mountd and pfs_statd and both daemons are not active, so the only thing I can think of is a patch.
Im running hpux 11.11, can any one tell me which patch I might need.

Re: mounting a cdfs cdrom on a hpux 11.11 system

lsof |egrep "|SD_CDROM"
Are you getting a process id ??
Thats the process which uses that one

Re: mounting a cdfs cdrom on a hpux 11.11 system

Hi,

first, I don't set mounting of CD in fstab.
Do it from / with an alias 'cdmount' for ex.
Can you eject CD from your CDROM?

Re: mounting a cdfs cdrom on a hpux 11.11 system

insf -C

ioscan -fnC disk

Make sure the darned thing shows up.

If not, check the scsi/ide settings cabling etc.

fuser -uk /SD_CDROM

If the directory is not there, create it.

That might boot your system or crash processes.

device busy usually means that there is an open process on the folder.

Re: mounting a cdfs cdrom on a hpux 11.11 system

Hi,

The only patch I can find is for a teac cdrom.
Try moving and recreating your device files.

# mv /dev/dsk/c1t1d0 /tmp/
# mv /dev/rdsk/c1t1d0 /tmp/
# insf -e
(recreate your device files)
# ioscan -fnCdisk
# mount -F cdfs -o cdcase /dev/dsk/cXtYdZ /SD_CDROM
(replace the xyz with the device output from ioscan)

Re: mounting a cdfs cdrom on a hpux 11.11 system

By any chance if pfs daemons were started on the server, chances are that the cdrom devoce will not get freed up.

Get lsof
lsof|grep "cdromdevice"

If any process is associated with it, kill it.

then do
mount -F cdfs -o cdcase /dev/dsk/cxtxdx /cdrom

you have to have /cdrom directory created.
