Move data from msa 30 to a SAN

I have an rp3440-4 server with HP-UX 11.23 with an MSA-30 attached to it that holds all of our Informx programs and data.  Recently I installed the iSCSI initiator onto my server and connected to my Equallogic PS6500 SAN.  Now that I have that connected I need some help with deciding how to store my data on the SAN.  In my testing I was giving 500GB to play with.  I created a new volume group called vg02 and put some data on it.   That seems to work.  Now the question is would it be better for me to create one vg02 on the SAN and move everything from the existing vg01 to the SAN or would it be better for me to create volume groups for each of the existing volumes that are within vg01?

I am attaching my current filesystem listing.

Re: Move data from msa 30 to a SAN

If you want to do this offline, create a data backup and restore it to the new VG. Adjust the mounts and activate.

Otherwise you may consider to mirror existing LVOLS from the MSA to the new storage, then unmirror from MSA and finally remove the MSA from the VG (this is online).

Hope this helps!

Re: Move data from msa 30 to a SAN

Thanks for the information.  I need to ask a question about the steps to create a mirror onto the SAN.  Can I create the mirror using SAM or should I do it manually?  Would you mind helping me with the steps to doing that?

Thanks for the help.

google this:

"HP-UX System Administrator's Guide:
Logical Volume Management
HP-UX 11i Version 3"

The manual will guide you.

Come back if you have further questions.

Hope this helps!
