Moving a vPar from one physical machine to another
I have two rp8640 Integrity systems, both running multiple 11i v3 vPars. All of the vPars boot from SAN devices. Does anyone know if it's possible to "move" a vPar from one physical system to the other?
From what I've seen and read so far, one may be able to present the SAN device containing the OS image to the other server, then, on that server create a new vPar that includes the path to the SAN device as the boot device.
Both of the systems are physically identical, with Fibre Channel/1000Base-T combo cards in each I/O slot. The vPars on both systems are configured with two of these cards each.
Thanks in advance for all responses!
Scott

Re: Moving a vPar from one physical machine to another
Hi Scott,
this should work.
I assume you have a rx8640, right?
You need to create a vPar on the new server, present the LUN, adjust the boot path and boot it.
If the boot path is different from the first system, you maybe need to boot into single user mode first, vgexport/import vg00 to adjust the h/w path. But if the disks are set up with the agile devices correctly, this step may not be needed.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Moving a vPar from one physical machine to another
Hi Scott,
It should worked perfectly well. Shutdown the vpar, create a new vpar on the new npar, present your disk to this new vpar, and then boot it
regard,
Sandy

I never think of the future. It comes soon enough.
