moving to a new server from one with missing os files

I have a replacement server for one that is missing some core os files(no /var/adm/sw/products for example). The server is running the apps alright but it can't use HP-Predictive if it has issues. I have a replacement server loaded with the same OS but its different hardware. The current server is an HP9000 800/G30 model and I want to go to a D class. The OS is HPUX 10.20. I want to recreate the files systems from a tape and copy printer info and user info as well. Make_recovery from this would install the bad OS. How would I proceed using tape?

Tar the relevant directories to tape and then restore on the new box. Or use your regular backup tapes to selectively restore what you need.

yup, you need to do a classical backup.
Ignites' primary function is to rescue a system not a user data backup/restore tool.
It works for me (tm)

This talks about migrating users and printers to a different server.
