Moving vg00 using Ignite
I have an L3000 running 11.11 v1 with vg00 on internal JBOD. I am wanting to relocate boot, swap, and vg00 to an attached VA7100, using Ignite. Please check my general procedure:
- Do a make_tape_recovery with the -A and -i options.
- Boot from that tape
- Specify new disk target (LUN on the VA7100), and VG and FS sizes on that target
- Do the recovery install
- Boot again, modify primary boot path to new disk target
- Done.
Is this basically it? Are there tricks or traps?
Also, my Ignite version is very old ... B.3.7.96. It is a must for me to upgrade Ignite to latest, or will this version do what I need? Upgrading Ignite is not a big hassle, but if I can avoid it, I'd prefer to for now.

Re: Moving vg00 using Ignite
Mark,
I would say you've basically got it right. It's really a pretty straightforward operation. I personally would prefer to rely on a newer version of Ignite but I highly doubt that would be a deal breaker. Try it with your existing version. If you have problems, you can always upgrade then and retry.

Re: Moving vg00 using Ignite
I agree completely with Pete.
You can always just boot the old disk and try again.
A couple notes:
-Double check the ignite site for supported boot devices, i.e. va7100. This may also force you to upgrade ignite. I would upgade it anyway, why not save yourself a potential issue.
-Ignite does not re-mirror your vg00.
But if it is possible to boot from va7100 protected volume then not an issue.
