MSA30-MI disk & MC Serviceguard

Hi

We're looking at using MSA30-MI disk in a Serviceguard environment as an interim solution.

Can any one advise if this is a supported configuration by HP and if so any potential pitfalls in using this disk in SG environment.

Is it also possibel to configure dual paths to the disks with MSA20-MI??

Thanks for any help / advice

Cheers
Con

Re: MSA30-MI disk & MC Serviceguard

Shalom Con,

I just went to a presentation on that included that disk array. It is not recommended for clusters.

TO be a shared disk device, you need to have two scsi or fiber connections into it. If this can be done without generating a kernel panic, you might be able to do this.

Re: MSA30-MI disk & MC Serviceguard

Hi Con,

Yes, MC-SG configuration is supported with MSA30-MI DB storage.
Refer this link

Yes, dual paths to the storage is possible with MSA30-MI DB storage.

Re: MSA30-MI disk & MC Serviceguard

Yes this is a supported array:

The MSA30 MI is supported with Ultra2, Ultra160 and Ultra320 SCSI. The only supported Ultra320 SCSI Host Bus Adapters are the A7173A and AB290A.
Only the MSA30 MI is supported for use as a shared disk with Serviceguard as it is the only MSA30 model that supported Multiple SCSI Initiators. The MSA30 SB (Single Bus) and MSA30 DB (Dual Bus) are not supported for use with shared SCSI buses.
Supported with HP-UX 11iv1 (11iv1) and 11iv2 (11.23) and Serviceguard A.11.15 or later. Also supported for 2 node clusters only with Serviceguard Extension for RAC A.11.15 or later.
There are 2 separate SCSI buses (Bus A and Bus B) in the MSA30 MI, each with 2 Auto-terminating SCSI ports, and each bus has 7 disk mechanizms. It is not possible to bridge the 2 SCSI buses in the MSA30 MI, since the disks on each bus use the same SCSI IDs.
The MSA30 MI can be connected in High Availability configurations for 2 nodes only. Each node has one SCSI connection to each bus in the MSA30 MI and software mirroring (via MirrorDisk/UX or VxVM mirroring) is used to mirror data between disks on the two buses.
The MSA30 MI is not supported with HP Smart Array RAID controllers.
The Auto-terminating SCSI ports on the MSA30 MI allow online repairs (I.E. the SCSI cables from one node may be disconnected while the drive is still being accessed by the other node).
The MSA30 MI is a JBOD and not a RAID array (despite the name).
Supported with VERITAS VxVM 4.1, CVM 4.1 or CFS 4.1. No DMP support.

Re: MSA30-MI disk & MC Serviceguard

Some elaboration.

I'm honestly not sure if it will work or not.

The link above says it is supported.
