I saw that in O'Reilly. Called the response centre. Here's the deal.
listen-on directive IS Bind 8 only.
Bind 8 will run on 10.20 as you say but needs to be recompiled. Source avail from ITRC.
alias_ip directive will achieve same as listen-on in 4.9.7 but is an HP-UX only directive and you can only have one in your named.boot file. Syntax is simply..
alias_ip

HP: 0 points for implementing non-standard (read propietary) functions in a "standard" software package letting people think its the standard thing.
