multiple host names for a single IP in HP-ux 11i V3

can you help in how to create multiple host names for a single IP in HP-ux 11i V3.

Is there any document available?

Hello,

If you do not have a DNS, you could use /etc/hosts like this:

192.168.0.1 hostname1 hostname2 hostname3 ....

hostname2 hostname3 ... are called "aliases"

hostname1 it is called "official host name"

man hosts would help.

If you do have a DNS, you should change your zone to achieve the same thing.

I just realized that this was posted under ServiceGuard.....

Please tell me your not trying to have multiple servers/nodes in a clustered environment listed under 1 IP address?

I wouldn't advise that.

Shalom Sreedhar,

There will be only 1 hostname for a system.

You can create a bunch of aliases using DNS or /etc/hosts, but the hostname command is going to always and forever return one answer.
