multiple interfaces single ip address

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a solution to a problem

Multiple interfaces are wanted for redundancy.I'd like to also be able to traffic share over them to get faster throughput.

I want to reference the box by it's ip address.

what is the suggested solution?

do I route over seperate interfaces and then reference the loopback.

or can I do standards based mlt (802.1q) to an etherent switch?

this must be a standard problem, with a standard solution

thanks
Stuart

Re: multiple interfaces single ip address

Stuart,

Have you looked into Auto Port Aggregation (APA)?

Re: multiple interfaces single ip address

Hi,
APA(Auto port Aggression)
provide a logical grouping of 2 or more physical ports into a single with a single IP address. Two primary features are automatic link failure detection and recovery as well as optional support for load balancing of network traffic across all of the links in the aggregation. This allows you to build large bandwidth logical links into the server that are highly available and completely transparent to the clients and server applications

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/J4240-90012/J4240-90012_top.html gives you more details.
